I was in atlantic home stores today ,buying dog food when i spotted these waste paper baskets. They are robust and would certinally do as a skep. Only €5

:hurray:sounds like a good price! Would you need to seal the lid and make another entrance? Could you only crush and stain to take any honey? Hope you get one/some going.

looks ok for collecting swarms, this is surely the only thing anyone would want one for in this country these days, isnt it? Well, and education purposes, i suppose.

Nice tidy apiary, don't tell me your solar wax extractor is working already!

Forgot to take it inside and i was limited for space. There was a day last month when it melted what ever scraps were in it. This weekend is suppost to be good so i will load it up with all the scrapings so far

Bough one in leekes Crosshands last month - three diferent sizes starting at £3.00 i think

Thanks, they look great for collecting swarms and plenty of ventilation too, do they come with a lid ? it will be easy enough to make a top though

No lid, but the next size up had two handle holes about an inch from the bottom, that would be ideal for enterances. one side could easily be blocked. no more propping up with stones

Thanks for the heads up got the last few in Liffey Valley just need an obliging cow with bad guts to cover outside now!

Yes. i also went back and bought another one with the holes for hand grips in the sides
