Removing the entrance block!

althoughi don't have the problem as I use under floor entrances.
Maybe that's why they put matchsticks under the CB - to get rid of the stench of rotting bees and detritus

I have a Pa@@es poly national so came with a plastic block that is turned to have four holes as the mouse guard so I am presumming I will have to check the opening during the winter and push something through the holes to move any dead bees out of the way until spring as not gone through a winter before its all new to me

didn't bother removing the snow from the entrances after this fall in feb 2012. in truth couldn't get to the hives which are 100m away down a steep slope.

bees were fine once it compacted down (to 1m) and melted a bit (OMFs open all winter). as soon as there was some flying weather (despite the snow) they were back on the Loquat blossom at every opportunity.
