Ratchet straps

However....OP specifically asked about ratchet straps...hence I mentioned their three most common sizes.

I use small ratchet straps from Also, cost a tenner for four and they're pretty robust and well made.

Yes, these are Spanset hive straps. We use these for individual hives and ratchet straps for over the whole loads.

About 3.50 direct from Spanset (in quantity), but I did highlight the little change to them that has made them more likely to lose the blue bit in recent seasons. I assume Thornes get a better price but it is a very reasonable mark up anyway given their overheads, especially as you have to also consider their dealer discounts. (in that case must be close to selling them at a loss.)

Need to order a stack more and will try to get them to reverse the change they made. I want the strap sown TIGHT to the lever.

Spanset will not sell either the strap or lever on their own, which makes me wonder if they are actually bought in as units.


ps.....it can annoy the hell out of YOU if you forget, but you can strap them down through the pallet or hive stand too, so if anyone tries to lift the hive intact they come well unstuck. We strap them that way in a place with badgers so they are hard to knock over.

Yes that's what I do..strap through the stand.. (We have a LARGE badgers' sett 500 meters away and one walks round the garden at night looking for food..Plus a foxes' den 30 meters from my hives)
