Quinoa for honey.

I got a phone call from a farmer who wants me to put bees on about 20 acres of quinoa. Is it any good for producing honey,

I should imagine it's rather like buckwheat ? Ie not a true cereal ! More like a crucifer and hopefully produce pollen and honey?

there is buckweed there as well but it is already 2 weeks in flower

Buckwheat is extensively grown in Eastern Europe, the honey is extremely strongly flavoured and is a premium product ,beloved in the confectionary trade as a little goes a long way!

Quinoa has nothing to do with buckwheat.

Quinoa is Chenopodium plant (goosefoot)and it is self pollinating. It has no pedal flowers where the bee visits and I suppose that it does not give nectar or pollen to bees.

I ate this stuff in Peru where it is grown at quite high altitudes with not a pollinator in sight.

Quinoa is self fertile. On another beekeeping website it states not pollinated by insects.

Depends how poncy the bees are and whether they have run out of avocado and chard.
