i put a small swarm in a nuc a couple of weeks ago

the queen was laying when i found her but is laying multiple eggs, or she is cohabiting with a laying worker

ideas of what could be happening?

all in the bottom of cells from what i can tell, not on the sides etc

She is probably young and takes a while to do the job properly. The workers will apparently sort the eggs out so I am told!!!!

I find it's a bit like the mantra of turn it off and on again with tech stuff. Leave it a week and look again in most situations (not queen cells obviously). Lots of things sort themselves out or at least the situation becomes more obvious.

As enrico said.....I’ve also seen/suspect if the bees can only manage a small cluster she’s restricted to a small area to lay in and may just over do it.

Yeah go easy, I mistaken a newly mated queen who is on first day on her job laid multiple eggs and chucked them out as advised by mentor. Felt so bad after that.

Its probably not laying worker because for laying worker to appear, ur hive need to be queenless for quite a while before they inspire to start to lay..

In case of doubt simply wait 9 days to see the cappings. If domed then drone laying queen or laying worker then need to do something if worker cappings then don't do anything.

And if she is drone laying then get rid of all the frames with eggs on!
