I'm currently introducing a new mated queen to one of my queenless colonies which has had a laying worker or drone laying queen inhabiting it. Today I took the brood body 100m away and shook off all the bees from the frames. I then placed most of the empty frames back in the hive, there were no sealed brood or eggs / larvae on the frames. I then waited an hour a put the queen cage in the middle of the brood trapped between 2 frames and dosed the bees with hive clean to distract them. I checked the cage in 30 minutes and there was no sign of aggression. The queen came with 6 young bees. My question is is it really necessary to put a frame of sealed brood in the hive and should I have used a nuc? I put a frame of brood in there which they did not draw 3 weeks ago so there will be some bees 2 weeks old.

Thanks in advance,

Carl
