i just pick a good frame of bees , spray them with a light sugar syrup mix and shake bees of all ages into a tub and then pour what looks enough into my mating nuts.
any failings i had last year from what i can remember was from my own mis- doings.

Yep, I certainly had queen cells. I eventually tried to split the hive and now have two hives but not convinced I have a queen in either!

Good news is they haven't swarmed!

How soon do new queens leave the hive and for how long, when they fly to mate?

What is the longest period after an egg is laid can it turn into an emergency queen cell?

Just trying to decide what to do if there are no queens.
