I have one super on this hive; looking in the super yesterday to see if honey ready for extraction (could be osr amongst it) l came across a queen cell (on the face of frame no 5), with royal jelly in. Replaced and left it.

I cannot see that the queen could have got into the super, unless she squeezed through the wood bound wire slatted QE, which was securely in place.

My question, could the bees have moved an egg from the brood box into the super to start a new queen?? Should l leave it and see what happens, or what? I suppose could be possible queen is trapped up in the super, if so, she wouldn't be able to swarm even if the bees wanted her to.

Laying worker
Do you mean I have a regular queen in the brood chamber and also a rogue laying worker? Checked again today and the cell with royal jelly in the super has not altered, not increase in size or shape, nor more royal jelly. Just as it was 30 hrs ago.

A colony of bees normally has lots of laying workers
The house bees usually eat the eggs. They missed this one.
It’s nothing to worry about.

Is this the same for drone brood in supers?
About 3 weeks ago I had a small patch of drone brood in the first super above the qx..
Queen is/was laying well and looking good.
The Queen is a 2019 open mated.

Hi all,
Just to resurrect this thread..
I have a new super beneath a broodbox i was using as a super to get frames drawn out. Both above a QX. The broodbox was well drawn out with stores and partly capped in about 3 frames. Came across 4 drone brood at last inspection in the upper most super which I ignored as assumed rouge worker moved eggs up. Been about 10 days since last inspection (weather related) and today found 1 charged QCell in the uppermost super. QC had jelly and larva in it. No other brood in the super. Did a full check in the BBox, queen seen, laying well and no other QC or cups. I removed the QC from the super as I'm hoping it was a mistake by some errant worker.

Any advice? Can I still ignore that as a swarm/supercedure sign?

You can ignore it entirely

So... Back to this oddity..
So I ignored the charged QC as a swarm/supercedure signal in the super at last inspection and tore it down, but then today I find 2 charged and pretty well constructed QCells ! Still in super, and for fuller picture, this is a brood box I used as a super (to get frames drawn out) which now sits above a second super (regular small), which the colony is building out, both above the BBox. Lots of room in BBox to lay and queen laying well (to my beginner eyes), though I have seen a lot of drone brood (which doesnt seem out of the norm from what I have read on here).

I tore them down as it doesnt make sense to me how it got there, and it's not in the "bee manual", plus it gives me time. Still ignore as a warning sign of something? Any more info I can give? Pictures below.IMG_2523.jpegIMG_2522.jpeg

Cheers.

I would like to see some pictures of the brood pattern..
I would say its lack of queen pheromones going above.
