Hi all

Recently I keep heard a bee keeper say he has a apairy for his production hives.

Excuse if this is a daft question, but what's the difference between a production hive and a normal hive.

Or there is no difference

Thank you

You will have hives that are building up and which may not make much honey this year - not a production hive
You may have hives you are using for queen rearing rather than honey making - not a production hive
You may have a hive that's swarmed and building up again - technically not a production hive

Thankyou, so basically full colonies that are expanding at the expected rate, and hopefully bringing in the nectar....if it ever warms up.

It may also be that a particular apiary produces the main/ a particular honey crop because of the nectar sources around it. In that case, you have/ move your ‘production hives to the ‘production’ apiary site .

If you are fortunate enough to have the option of a heather honey crop for e.g. you may have to move the hives to a nearby apiary site other than their normal location just to get this distinctive honey crop.
