What is the going rate for a 30lb tub of set honey if I was to buy? Just local flowers, not specialised. I am running short and have been offered some to purchase.

Hi Heather.

It's going to be down to local pricing, your local area and where the bucket is coming from that will influence the price. Along with supply and demand.

How much do you sell a 1lb jar of honey.
How much do you value your time warming and jarring.
Do you have regular customers to supply, with the fear they will go to the beekeeper down the road if you have no honey. A small loss or breakeven this year could pay dividends next year.

I sell to farm shop for £5. It is a reputable honey source (another Assoc member), but I have to heat as set in a 30lb bucket, jar, label and make a tiny profit for my trouble..I don't want to be unfair to seller but think the price offered is high (£120), so thought I would ask for others thoughts.
The person I supply will have no other supplier- just have no honey for her customers till Spring.

I last sold 30 lb buckets of honey in 2014 to a beekeeper in County Down for approx £3.00/lb. They needed the honey and were happy to pay that price. Its always a case of supply and demand.

:iagree:

But you must realise that this year it's a seller's market so prices are a little higher.
On the flip side, you have a loyal customer who is going to be let down this year and my thoughts would be you have to pay some of that loyalty back and think of future sales in years of plenty.
You may have to bite the bullet and as long as you don't make a loss consider it an investment in the future.
Try and find a middle ground with the seller?

£4 is steep.

Normal bulk price is around the £2.30 mark plus or minus a bit but it may well be more at the moment with last season plus this ones dearth.

£3.25 is the highest I've seen bandied about for bulk blossom honey, its not unreasonable to go considerably higher than this for one off lots of a bucket here and there.

Don't think you can call this a bulk purchase.

It's a single bucket of honey and sounds like a local beekeeper with a larger surplus (probably last year's honey) who is offering a bucket to Heather (correct me if I am wrong Heather) at a reduced price than they would get if they warmed, jared and sold it themselves.

I was prepared to go to £90, and yes a single bucket of last years.. Ah well, I must do better myself next year....

Yes better luck next year Heather.

You may have to find yourself a commercial beekeeper to get that price unfortunately.
