Hi I am new to bee keeping and this is the first time I have had to consider feeding my bees pollen substitute I want to build my two colonies up so that I can increase the number of colonies. I have been told that feeding the bees Pollen Substitue will help them develop faster. I have also been told to use fat free soya flour and brewers yeast (Ted Hooper) but I cannot find a supplier for fat free flour. You say it is OK to use normal soya flour if this is OK then it is much easier to source. I do not have any natural pollen will this matter? Sorry for all the questions any suggesions will be very welcome. My experience is that this amount of soya makes patty hard and it dryes up easily.
If you use fat free soya, it is good to add vegetable oil. Soya flour with fat is better than nonfat.
I use much dry yeast. It keeps patty soft.
Bees eate patty with their jaws. If flour is too coarse, the most of patty will be found on bottom board.
