Do many on here use plastic on top of brood chamber as they do in other countries is there a reason why its not used here.

Me too
Nice to be able to look at the bees without disturbing them.
Great to show the odd fascinated visitor.
50mm EPS insulation on top in the winter

ploycarb crown boards are the best improvement I made to our hives this year. They are useful to novice and experienced beeks alike. The only down side is the temptation to take a quick peek just for the sake of it.
:)

.
Reason is probably that in new polyhives there are only one cover.
When burr glues the cover tighly, you cannot take it off without breaking. So extra plastic keep the burr and cover apart.

Nice to watch when actually you see nothing.

Now we are all taking different languages!

Some plastic sheet; some plastic crownboard; some plastic roof.

I only used a plastic sheet over my 6 frame nucs which were divided for two colonies, each of three frames.

I ment the heavy plastic sheet type as in builders plastic do many use it and is there any reason not to.
Finman "Nice to watch when actually you see nothing".Is this a Koan?

mine have either the rigid yet flexible sheet supplied with the hives (MB or Pains) OR proper 2mm polycarbonate (off fleabay).
