Hi All,

Dont know if this has been asked before now, but I did try to search 1st.

I will be overwintering two colonies in Paynes Poly Nucs 14 x 12 both are covering 5/6 frames both with new Queens this year.

What is the ideal product to use and do I just reduce by half to administer ?
or/ and treat with Oxalic acid in December weather permitting.

Also I read somewhere that the polystyrene with some can be damaged with certain products.

Any help advice appreciated

I use a half dose of Apilife Var
It will melt the cover board if you don't isolate it. The rest of the hive is OK as the product rests on the top bars and doesn't make contact with the body of the hive.
The fumes do no damage.

With ApiLife Var, cut up one of the packets it comes in to separate the pieces of treatment wafer from the Perspex cover board. be careful the wafer doesn't drop down into the nuc: if it lands on the poly, it will begin to melt it.

A piece of (aluminium) kitchen foil formed into a 'dish' shape is the usual 'container' for the Apilfe Var pieces.
Just keep the treatment away from the poly!

thanks all

Any thoughts on Thymovar
