After a little advice:

Long story short; 12yrs ago I was nearly a beekeeper, joined the local BKA did my 'training' etc. but work family and life got in the way.....

Now I am able to follow things up...

I have hive and equipment ready....bees from a local very well respected BK coming soon (6f nuc)

Ive spent the last 6m reading up on any changes (12yrs is a long time) in BK methods but....

Is there anything I'm missing?

Cheers J

No, now is the time to find out more by keeping bees (and you really don’t need to know about the the bees’ gut - but interesting if you want to know more).

Happy beekeeping.

Try and get a mentor; perhaps the person bringing the bees. That will give you confidence, help avoid mistakes and give a chance to discuss what you are seeing, doing and planning.

"don't really need to know"

I don't see his posts unless someone quotes him...

Good luck J in Devon... giving nearest town may help in finding friendly locals willing to help if you get stuck.....

Nothing much has changed in 12 years, prices have risen and you misses the great Flowhive con... honey from the tap, just tip in bees!!!

Thanks,

Between Exeter and Tiverton. Yes noticed the price increase! As for Flowhive.....nearly fell into that trap a few years ago!.
As for the bee gut(s).... I wonder what eltalia want to know? Perhaps they are unsure of Bifidobacterium asteroides or Lactobacilli and how they can independently metabolise a wide range of gut compounds......?

Always one smartass out there!

For beginners one has to be happy there is a willingnes to find and absorb
an article.

Beekeeping methods in the UK have probably gone backwards in the last 12 years :icon_204-2:

You've had some bee experience so you should be fine. Any specific problems you come across feel free to post and help will be forthcoming along with a bit of trolling, sniping, and flaming depending on who is and isn't banned at the time.....

Good luck

If you can make that " hives" you'll be a step closer to a successful first year. A second colony can be a lifesaver for the first.
