Painting Feeders and Preventing Mould

I've also had to re-jig the Pay*nes feeder, was losing thousands of bees to drowning, very poorly designed piece of kit as it stands.

I had to cut a rebate in the two of the outer inner walls if that make sense, then cut a sheet of perspex to fit, be accurate or the bees will surely find a way through. Remember to leave a bee space under for the bees to access the feeder slots, also put a block under the gap at the ends, I used sone of the poly cut from the rebates glued and pinned in place.

Another importent mod is to fit a strip of wood under the removable wall to fill that gap, the syrup will still leak up to where the bees need it, add a float as well.
No need at all to paint

Now it works perfectly, not one drowned bee.

Dammed idiots, don't they use the products they design and sell ?

Thing is, they do. When I rang them to ask about painting, the chap said that they had used loads of them last season with no problems. I wonder if they're using them differently- I might get back in touch with them.
