Has any one done this and if so can you give me any tips???

Try the search for " overwintering queens in mini nucs " would link it but dont know how

As far as I know there are a number of us that overwinter mini nucs and there was a thread to this effect last year but the search engines do not find it, you need to fill the bottom box with frames or starter strips, make an eke and feed from there, varroa treatment is carried out various ways but i cut one of HM's oasis slabs into nuggets last year, and obviously they need keeping an eye on through the winter and topping up the fondant as required. Many on here will say its a waste of time, for me it gives me spare queens at a time when no others are available next spring.

Mine are going into the winter with dual boxes and top feeder in addition on top (1kg plus size). 2x Keillers and 2x Apideas. Bit of an experiement. They might also live in a poly nuc to give extra protection from the elements. Not sure how it will go but in the same boat as the OP!

Make certain they are well off the ground, and possibly think about covering the roof with a piece of ply or similar as the birds seem to like to peck the roof in winter, no other insulation.

read last years thread really god tips going tip put a few more bee' in the mini nuc 2orrow
