Which left me gloveless putting cleared supers back on a stroppy hive this afternoon. An interesting experience to say the least, I'd not noticed how many bees actually come into contact with our gloves, maybe half a dozen at any time. None stung, they must have been as surprised as I was. Don't think it's something I want to try again immediately, though, must be beginners luck.

I buy XL nitriles from EuroCarParts in their sales.. Plenty room. A box lasts two years of painting.
And XL marigolds.. Last about three years..

A dose of Neutrogena hand cream (unscented) well rubbed in before opening a hive keeps my hands smooth and make removal of propolis easy.

A couple of kitchen towel squares a a couple of KFC hand wipes...

Sherriff do a nice range that are much softer than those freebee gloves, buy a size smaller so they fit tightly.
They can be washed in a soda solution and left to dry, keep them supple with neatsfoot oil. Keep too much propolis and honey off them by wearing disposables over them. Leather will soak up sweat so your hands are not so shrivelled

Exactly - comfort and hygiene. Nitriles over soft leather serve very well and the leather gloves stay clean. It doesn't seem to be any more of a problem to put nitriles over leather than to put them on bare hands. And out of (honey) season I just wear nitriles.
