£70 stainless steel from Thorne or £15 eBay copy?

That is a hell of a clunky tool - check the blade thickness - and it lacks delicacy. Best for the job is by Jero, a Portuguese manufacturer, no longer available in the UK since the demise of Park Beekeeping but available in the EU. You could use it for surgery or parting ancient boxes because it is light, delicate but v strong.

Will give many years of good service, although a Dadant is regarded as the Rolls of smokers because for some reason it keeps lit for the longest time (and is made beautifully). https://www.modernbeekeeping.co.uk/toolssmokers/the-original-dadant-smoker-7

Useful to have seen in a hive before your first arrives
Did you have a good look inside a hive last year? I have known people to start without experience, training or reading, because a positive outlook can take you far esp. if you're not fazed by learning from mistakes. If you haven't got it yet, buy the Haynes Bee Manual, the best beginner guide book.

European ladies? About five years ago we visited our son in Melbourne and he needed some DIY kit so I googled Screwfix on his behalf. He was immediately rewarded with offers of Russian brides:drool5:. Our son was horrified in case he became labelled as an internet perv.......
On my laptop searching for "screwfix" draws a blank. Search for "screwfix.com or "screwfix tool" or even "screwfix beekeeping", and you'll get there....I find that very odd, but so am I. ;)
