Well after my trials and tribulations over the past few years i finally received a new colony today after many ignored pleas for help, i have a black ignore book of names never to ask again, sad but true.

However this True Gentleman supplied me with more knowledge and what i will write below.

It has a laying Queen brood eggs and stores (basically a five frame Nuc) that would cost £££ from elsewhere ,and guess what not a penny changed hands ,the bees are of Buckfast genes and Rather Rather mellow compared to what i am used too handling, the same fellow has had over 800lb of honey from a spring crop this year and more to come from 18 hives, he did not have to help me as he has no gain from me, however he did and for that i am in his debt.

Why can't there be more folk like this on these forums a little help goes a long way for the new and naive.

You are probably sick of me by now BF NP but i can built just about anything from wood so drop me a message if you need some stands or anything knocking up.. ;) .

I could have messaged you this but i thought it would be good to let folk know that being helpful and descent goes a very long way.
Regards
Steve.

So happy you are sorted

Last year when I lost nearly my entire stock I was overwhelmed by offers of help and two wonderful people here gave me nucs so keep the faith, Steve

That's great news millet, hope you enjoy them.

Great news. Good luck in the world of fewer angry bees. Hope they are both calm and productive for you.

I wish i had video footage of my current villains during inspections ,however for some strange reason i still respect them, they simply do what nature intended best, and defend at all costs.

If I can work out how to post a video here I'll post mine and we can compare notes. I have done a few splits for swarm control this year but was too late with my favourite queen who swarmed on uncapped cells in a tiny window amongst the recent deluge. The wally Shaw split is now requeening both halves, so a dismal failure. The Pagden worked a dream and my hot queen survives. She has laid frame after frame and the bees can hardly keep up drawing the new wax.

What is it about best laid plans? Sure I'm going to lose my favourite queen this year if not to a swarm to supercedure. Strange how we get attached to some. As you did, I have back up plans, but the bees will do what they do....

Put your Q in a nuc, this can be used to take grafts of some type for Q rearing.

Millet you could boost your new nuc with a frame of emerging brood from another hive.

I do not have any spare brood as my split colony and my original colony both have virgin or newly mated Queens, the new Queen is already in a Nuc ;) but i am not faffing about and risking there build up, when the time is right i have been offered a frame of eggs and brood from another nice colony, that way i can splat the new Queen in the split colony when i can find her and put the nice brood and eggs in that colony and let them make a new Queen from that while pulling down any queen cells from any other frames.
