Hi and good morning,
I've two new apairy sites and I'm wanting to move 4 colonys two to each site.
Would you suggest I move them after the spring flows.
For starters the hives have two / three supers on and I personally I don't fancy moving double brood with three supers on my own.
Both sites are 3 miles away.
Your thoughts.

Extract and move, like all do - heh?

Its down to preference and timing. Personally I wouldn't move a double on my own unless I had a way of isolating each box, and I guess the supers depend on whether its ready/capped or not, could be a real royal mess/pita jogging nectar out of them.

I've just been to put stands at the new sites both are a 2 min walk to Heather. there is a beek 2 miles away who has 4 colonys and he gets Heather honey pretty much every year.
He also has black bee's which is brilliant.

As to the move... The forage there at the mo is lots and lots of trees dandelions are flowering really well harwthorne, cherry, apple, maple. I was getting a bit exited with how much forage there is.

I plan to move them after the spring flow has stopped at home and I'll have to brake the brood boxes down and supers.
I've asked my lad to help me now.

Here's a link the hives will be at the edge of the common.

I like the sound and look of that area - its described as a vast pesticide-free area and botanically rich. I share your enthusiasm. Maybe you can develop "something good" with the other beek ?

I hope so murox, it's a lovely area both sites are in fields no stock no bridle paths, I'll get some photos of the sites when the time comes for the move.

I came by these sites via an add I put up on Facebook on the local neighbourhood watch group.
I've two more sites to look at over the next day or two.
Im sad though the girls will be going out of the garden, we'll all but one, my cardigan honey bees will be staying.

The other beek is very keen as he was saying there use to be two or three beeks in the area but now there's just him, he asked if I wanted to look through his colonys when lock down is lifted.
He was also saying that his open mated queen's were all really dark and the offspring in the colonys were no less than 75% Amms even up to f3 queens.
So the Amm genus are very strong.

Sounds like a great spot, Mark.
The area is excellent but another like minded beekeeper is even better.
Best of luck to you, I hope you have some good results.
Keep us posted.
