Greetings everyone, long time no see, hope you had a good festive season!

On looking through some old photos, I came across this one that I took on 10 April 2014. I know the date by heart because it was the day my mum died in Africa.

This looks like some kind of hoverfly, but I have never seen such a creature before or since, and so it has taken on a kind of mystical connotation for me, given the day it appeared (indulge me, folks, I did love my mum, and she knew how much I love my bees :) )

What do you think it is? I have tried a simple image search through Google and still can't find it ...

What a beautiful thing. It's not a hover fly, it has four wings
Abia Lonicerae? A sawfly.

Thank you!

I knew that you guys would solve the mystery! That is so cool. My mum would've loved it :)

ETA: ... and yes, it was such a beautiful thing to see. Really, really intensely gold in the sunlight. Exquisite
