Making an assumption here but it's getting worrying that the fairer sex are showing us up with their hive making skills - it's enough to put me off my crochet!

I do so like your entrance block design. So simple!
Do you keep a longer one-piece or a short stubby bit to close up the hive if required?

Not really, its just a lump of wood, if i need to adjust it, i make a different size lump of wood.
