I wanted to build some multipurpose boards to use for clearing, vaping, making splits and for use as general crown boards.

They are about £15 each and needed 50 so thought I'd have a bash at making them.

Seems to have worked well.

I have made 1 so far and cut all the components for the remaining 49.

Injured myself quite badly with the ply kicking back on the table saw. Need to get the riving knife back in there.

Pics below.

I'll post some more as they are completed.

Finished board still needs feed hole and side entrance drilling out.

Bee space underneath.

Looking good but i bet that finger is stinging..i made some multipurpose crown boards a while back using clear perspex have a mooch through the pages you might find them..
Yeah I saw those. Very nice they were but I couldn't find any cheap perspex otherwise I would have gone with them.

The ply cost less than 50p per board.

do you use yours to vape oxalic acid and do they side entrances for vertical splits?

What size hole did you use for feeding? 100mm?

I attached the riving knife and guard when I set it up last year and it was basically useless. Just didnt work, so removed them. No point having a safe piece of kit that doesnt work.

but also no point in having an effective piece of kit that's dangerous.

The riving knife is going back on today.

I have not used them to vape yet but when the time is right yes i will use them to vape from above...the feed hole is 50mm when open and is more than adequate for the buckies i keep..regarding vertical splits....to date i have not done any and i have no plan of doing any into the future..if i did need to do one though i would not use one of these multipurpose eke crown boards as the 2in gap would be filled with wild comb..;)

Had a look at yours earlier as hadnt realised they didnt have the eke attached i.e. just a crown board with a feeding hole. How would you vape in that set up. eke?

Slightly different design.

50mm - do you get adequate flow through them for clearing? I was thinking 100mm minimum.

I can live with a bit of wild comb on a vertical split. It will just get cut off and tossed when then they get re-merged.

To be honest, the vertical split is a nice to have. The hole is there for vaping so I thought I'd stick a mini entrance on just in case I need to split and dont have any spare equipment.

50 x boards glued and screwed.

Will clean up joints tomorrow, drill the feed hole/entrance hole and they are done!

feed holes complete with plugs.

two different size holes on the side allow Gasvap and sublimox to enter and support itself, whilst working next colony.

will add mini nuc disc entrance and entrance hole next to vaping holes once they arrive from China.

Clearer boards will remain in eke while not in use

I’ve just moved house and have a great workshop in the making but apparently I have to do the house first :(

My wife enjoys the honey just not the time I spend in the shed lol

Here is the eke type I make..it can be used either way around for syrup feeding or fondant on the top bars..the hole can be closed or open..it has the little hole on the side for the gas vap that can be opened and closed easily...i have separate rhombus clearer boards but i don't use them as their are to slow..

Ah gotcha. Yeah they are identical.

I dont find rhombus cleaners slow.

it's a two trip job but better than brushing them all off IMO.
