Spotted a few mice droppings on the plastic varroa board floor thingy. What potential harm would a mouse do?

I haven't got a mouse guard yet, so will need to get one.

Can anyone recommend a particular mouse guard?

I thought I had mice in a hive in the spring - turned out to be slugs. Have a look in the hive above where the droppings are to see exactly what is leaving the droppings.

A bit of research would not go amiss , i have cabbaged my head roughly around 3/4yr's now with reading and the internet, i decided to take the plunge last year with bee's , a lot of the research was dog doo doo, i have no mentor or anyone too help but common sense plays a big part, sit back and think then think again, if you have a bit of a brain you can work it out your self.

Mice in the winter are destructive. Have them once and you will never go without a mouse guard again, but would be surprised if they are in there at this stage of the year.

I would be surprised if you have mice in a healthy colony this time of the year. Mice are around my hives all summer cleaning up dead bees, but touch would never had mice in the hives as yet, but mouse guards go on as soon as the weather changes in autumn. Mine are all 9mm holes, some home made others come with the entrance blocks. Post a picture!

Depending on your hive floor design mice can get in from the back between the mesh and inspection board. Brave little mouse if he fancys his chances in a hive this time of year.

Clearly I'm still getting to grips with the correct terminology ;)

That's why we're all really nice to newbies!

No matter how silly the question!

You'll still get all the answers! :icon_204-2:
