I've had about 6 now confirmed as mated.

Another 10 in 3 frame nucs awaiting mating, but its been over 22c every day for the last week, so im hopeful on the rest.

Making up another 6 x 3 frame nucs this evening.

Long may the settled weather continue.

Has anyone had any success with mated laying 2018 Queens, also any recommendations or links to anyone that has..
Cheers
Steve.

I usually start grafting at the start of May. This year, I left it a week or so because the drones weren't mature. Does anyone else test their drones first?
I have some sealed cells in the incubator now though.

15c here today and that was in the green house..

How long you been on here millet you should know all the breeders off by heart...

I have not needed to know of Queen breeders till recent times, however i do know of several but all are late with mated Queens hence my Question, don't try to belittle me on here .

Are you later in the year than normal Paul..
Thanks

:yeahthat:

My strongest hives are only just producing drones in any numbers.

I must be doing something wrong with one colony..:spy: .. i don't have much honey but i have load's of drones and two Queen cell's in Nuc's due to emerge around the weekend, i'll swap you some drones for honey..

Don’t see the need for the question at all. Don’t you already have the answer? Or don’t you believe your “several”?

Only the dimmest around haven’t noticed that things are occuring later this year. A simple failure to understand that beekeeping is regulated by the weather - NOT the calendar.

No need for that response. I found 2 uk mated queens available this week from a bee farmer. So they are available in small numbers.

I recieved my buckfasts yesterday from uk breeder. They had been on preorder since winter tho so probably first batch. The climate difference in the uk is vast tho.

I dont understand why some people wish to make negative comments, does it make them feel better about themselves i wonder.

Back on the 6th april I found two queen cells in one of my hives. the original queen was a nasty bugger and I had plans to replace her this year.

anyway, bought several queens which arrived on the 18th april and introduced them to various nucs plus the hive with the nasty queen (which was culled).

a few days later when inspecting the apiary, I found the newly introduced queen dead outside her hive. on inspection I found an unmarked tiny virgin queen. I must have missed a queen cell back on the 6th.

next proper inspection was 4th may when eggs were found so probably mated around 1st may as this was the start of the nice weather we have had lately.

I am under such pressure to get going that I haven't even begun to give it much thought. Virtually no drone brood yet let alone anything else. Bees are barely in the supers and although that was a sharpish comment it is on the mark. Things are VERY late indeed probably the latest I have known personally.

I was chatting to a keen birder yesterday and there are no house martins reported that he knows of unless you know better?
