MAQS in September

Ive not treated by colonies this year- Mite load has been low and manageable but enough to give them some MAQs. Question is when? It looks like I might get some HB honey so should I wait until I extract any (probably end of September early Oct) and do it then or now when the colony is still decent and strong? Or does it not make much difference?

What method did you use to test the mite load?

You want to get the mite load down to a minimum as the queen will be starting to lay the winter bees and you need to give those the best chance at making it through. I think end of September is getting a bit late.

My varroa treatment is already on, as we are coming into the time for winter bees. Maqs can be used when supers are on. I have done my harvest as am using thymol

i used MaQs on 7 colonies on monday

found the queen under a clump of bees moving very slowly outside one of the hives on tue...picked her up and put her back in the front and will be interested to see when i check in a few days time
