Makes a change from bees

Just been sorting out some supers for tomorrows shift and instead of the usual bee frenzy, had this beauty for company

Beautiful .. European Hornet .. Vespa Crabro.

Great to see them .. no conflict with bees but they do take other insects.

Is it not actually two different queen wasps? Pic 2 is the Common Wasp and pics 1, 3, 4 & 5 a Germanic Queen?

No, all pictures are of the same wasp.
I had a crabro queen in the store shed last night but unfortunately I had left my phone in the study, in actual fact she was also mooching around the apiary on Saturday just before the thunderstorm - I didn't see her but the noise they make in flight is unmistakeable
