Hi,

Just a FYI. Having purchased a number of new Poly Nucs from Maisemore it became apparent the queen excluder entrance on the supplied entrance disk is too small. Does not allow workers through let alone the queen.

Unfortunately Maisemore although acknowledging the problem refuse the replace or part refund. Be aware, if you purchase one of these in their current state do not use the Queen Excluder setting.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't there something that if a product is found faulty and not fit for purpose, then they have to either repair or refund? Meaning they can not just ignore the problem....

this is interesting, I'm sure this was raised by some else on the forum about these disks.

But there seller, refunded them, or exchanged, or they filed them down.

I've still to measure mine, that I've had a few years!

Distance should be 4.3mm. (bee space), and I've encountered this recently, when 3D Printing Queen Excluders....

here you go, this post & thread...

If you purchase online, you can under Distance Selling Regulations return for full refund! (but you may have to pay costs to send back!), and they *MUST* refund what you PAID to them, which includes the carriage! and you must notify then, you are returning under Distance Selling Regulations, 7 days starts, when you receive the goods.

Thank you great thread which I had but read previously. Unfortunately it's been more than 7 days since I purchased. Only noticed recently when they were first used. Must be some comeback for the supplier ?

I think Luka is right, no ifs or buts. A queen excluder is there to let the workers through and stop the queen. If it does't its not fit for purpose.....

I think that they would also be liable if your bees died as a result.

Here is part of one of the mails. Great customer service

"Sorry there is no refund, the disc is something that we choose to put along with the polystyrene nucs, if you want to buy new discs then that is completely your own choice"

One thing I have noticed is their description on the web site does not mention the disk although it is shown in the picture (for illustration only)

Ah, so that could be a freebie, which is known to be faulty, and that's why they are being given away! Because they are of no use.

You could ask, if you were to purchase one, would it be the same, or corrected, e.g. 4.3mm bee space (correct bee space).

To be honest, it would have been nice to know, this is a second, it has a fault, please note, the bee space is incorrect, and all your bees will not be able to get out.

Did it come secured to the box ?

Emailing never worked for me with Maisemores. Phone and ask to speak to the boss he'll be out with the bees but you can arrange a time. You're looking for a young man, not the father.

Johnathan Hiam, rather than Eric, IIRC.

:iagree: Eric can be a miserable old soandso. In fact it was Jonathan who made the discounted offer on buying ten nucs (it has now been put on the website)
I was about to post on the QE issue when I saw this actually - left the QE entrance on a nuced queen at the association apiary Sunday (plan was for flying bees to return to main hive)
Lucky Redwood and I popped up there yesterday to check a few things - all bees crowded at the entrance trying to get out

As they KNOW the devices are not entirely 100%, a note on the website would be good. "We are giving these away with nucs because they are a bit crap; they open and close but the excluder slot is wrong. You can pay for a proper one if you wish"

The mail conversions were with Jonathan. As mentioned would have been good to know in advance. As jenkinsbrynmair I left a nuc on qe and only discover they were trapped a few days later

the yellow disc on you poly nuc looks very different to the one in the illustration!

do maises poly nucs not come with a "a disc entrance for easier control of the entrance" from the Paynes website that was, there Poly nucs are the same price come with a disc entrance.

To be fair to Mmore. This nuc is really nice and the top feeder is brilliant. top marks for the design. disk needs a change though so thanks for the heads up.

# When the disk hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's Maise-more
# When the bees can't get by howe'er hard they try, that's Maise-more
# Tills will ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling
# And you'll sing "f^&4ing hella"

With apologies to Dean Martin (who I doubt is here to be offended)
