For those who are interested, one of my bee buddies in the BWARS group took this picture of a varroa mite.

Well, I found it interesting............. :p

I thought the same thing! They look different to how I imagine they would, close up. I thought they would look like crabs for some reason lol

Someone else said the same thing lol. I just looked at it again, and it looks like a dinosaur with a shell. Didn't expect those hairs either.
 
Kinda suggests that you haven't seen the sharper photos in "Managing Varroa" - the (important) free official booklet on controlling the pest. ;)

No! I must have missed that one, which is odd because I thought I had read all that stuff last winter while I was having a look at bee pests and diseases. Thanks for the link. Shall have a good look at that tomorrow :)
