Hi Keith.
I just spoke to a beekeeper who lives in Kildare and he brings some hives to the heather every year.
He said it's difficult to call exactly when the ling heather comes into bloom but he said hives should be in place by the beginning of August. He said the bloom lasts from early August up to the end of September. However they remove the hives at the end of August to allow the bees to work the ivy for winter stores and varroa treatment etc.
He said the colony should be a strong one.
Hope this is of help.
