I was advised to position it so that if the attendant bees die before the fondant is breeched, they don't block the exit.
IMO you should remove the escort bees prior to inserting the queen cage in the hive.

Just twigged what you've posted on another thread Bates, of course you should remove the workers and post them to the NBU for checking if they're bloody imports !
Don't quite understand what your trying to get at?
If the queen + attendants have been imported then it is a statutory obligation to collect the attendants and send them to the NBU for checking.
