Thank you. I have read several different things some advising vertical with candy upwards some vertical with candy opening downwards and some advising that if you put it in horizontal it is better.

I read that if you cut out the plastic tab in the centre of the ventilation panel at the back of the jz bz cage it leaves a queen excluder sized hole to allow access to workers but enclose the queen, havent tried it but possibly usefull information for someone.
I just push them down between two brood frames spout down.

I was advised to position it so that if the attendant bees die before the fondant is breeched, they don't block the exit.

IMO you should remove the escort bees prior to inserting the queen cage in the hive.

Old school, reckon its a waste of time myself

More than a few peeps have the opinion that leaving the workers with the caged Queen makes scant difference to morality rates ! After all; the Queen pheromone from HM permeates beyond the confines of the cage. The grooming/ fanning by the attendant workers can only assist in the distribution of same and thus aid acceptance ?

Yes VM, and the added spread of the new queens pheromones through trophylaxis by her attendant workers and those outside surely help with acceptance too, ne c'est pa ?

What exactly defines an immoral queen then? :smilielol5:

Mates with as many drones as her spermathica will allow :D

Oh! Should have read MORTALITY but then I think you know that or possibly not:willy_nilly:

Just twigged what you've posted on another thread Bates, of course you should remove the workers and post them to the NBU for checking if they're bloody imports ! ;)

Don't quite understand what your trying to get at?

If the queen + attendants have been imported then it is a statutory obligation to collect the attendants and send them to the NBU for checking.

Sure I spotted a post by you(Bates) advertising impiorted buckfasts ? if not then its my faulty memory at play, many apologies.

This is anything imported out of the EU. E.g Queens from Australia have to have escorts sent for inspection and queens changed to new cages.
