It's a fairly fluid thing.... more than 10, less than 15
So, woke early as worried about the high winds due today. Decided to put a strap round the hive just in case, popped on my beesuit and ventured outside. It was still only about 12 degrees and windy (this was at 7am) and the hive was still in shade. I put the strap around with no issues but no bees came out to investigate and I couldn’t hear anything from inside.
They were happily buzzing around yesterday evening, although not lots of them as it was a bit chilly.
Should I be worried?

LOL! It’s my first hive and I’ve only had them a week so..... anxious parent much?!
I know that feeling! I stand in the greenhouse which is next to one of my hives, and watch the bees to check that they are ok. The other I peep through the clematis to do likewise!

I didn’t realise you could have maternal instincts about bees as well as children...

I pout an Apidea with bees +queen out on Thursday night.

Since then it has been very windy, cold .. and not seen a bee venture out from it..
As it is 7C this am and raining, nothing much will change today.

Patience is required in beekeeping at times.

A beekeeper needs to nurture the bees. That's why women make such good beeks. We understand the importance of dates as well!

No worries .. all mine are just peeping out of the hive - very few flying this morning - quite breezy and chilly down here on the Costa del Fareham and some more rain predicted for later on. Not really a day for messing about with bees ...

Phenergan was what the doctor used to prescribe for our kids! - it was the only thing that worked with my youngest son - he would be up all night otherwise.
I shudder now thinking about drugging my kids but when you haven't had a decent nights sleep for weeks........................
