Is there a sticky 'getting started' thread?

Greetings,

I've lurked for a few months and plan to start with some bees in 2011. Is there a 'getting started' or similar sticky? I can't find one.

So far I have a few books, a nice new suit and gloves, a lovely long garden backing onto open country (lucky me!) and enthusiasm.

I live between Loughborough and Nottingham.

Welcome to the forum, Neil.

Have you contacted/attended your local BKA?

Have you done, or are you booked on, a beekeeping course for beginners?

What you ideally need is a little hands-on experience before getting any bees.

Personally, I've never needed to look for a sticky for new beeks. There will be a wealth of info on advertising sites (along with a lot of sales hype) and BKA websites.

I would look up your local BKA first.

do a search in google for beeginnings.

I'm in the process of joining the Leicestershire and Rutland BKA (application in the post). I have seen the beeginnings site - looks helpful, but it's reassuring to have a recommendation.
