how to make Fondant go hard?

May be to add more sugar. I have made my first batch and I made it to soft.
 
What are you trying to do ?
Fondant is a malleable sugar 'paste'. If you are making it yourself just use a higher temperature to drive off more water.
This should scale up
2lbs sugar
1/2 pint or less water
1 tablespoon liquid glucose

Heat water, sugar and glucose together until sugar has dissolved, bring to boil, boil to 115 C. Put the pan into a sink of cold water and start stirring with a flat wooden spatula, keep the mixture moving, when it gets harder to stir and has cooled sufficiently to work with hands pour out onto a clean worktop splashed with water, knead the mixture like bread until cool. Wrap in cling film. The glucose keeps it supple.
 
If you want it to go hard, follow Murox's recipe, but pour it into a suitable tray after the "when it gets harder to stir" bit.
It goes a bit like kendal mint cake, but without the mint. ;)
 
I made some a couple of years back and to be honest it is not worth the hassle..it was to much of a faff on for me and when you see how cheap it is to buy it becomes a no brainer really.

Bako, do a similar price, won't deliver to accredited business addresses unless its a big business (God knows I've tried!!!). A few members of this forum quote Bako prices as gospel...just not obtainable to the rest of us mere mortals.

Collected from Bako, the van was a little lower due to the 1/4 tonne on board.

Was that their minimum order?
I don't need a lot per year, just an occasional hive needs a top up, so 12.5kg is overkill for my needs. My nearest Bako collection point is over a 100 mile round trip away, so it works out cheaper to buy from STB and pay postage....plus I don't sit behind a wheel for about 2 hours...

Bako deliver to my house - had a delivery of 750kg last week. They just leave the pallet on the drive (if you ask them to).

I have asked them, but they refuse to deliver to our business address as on single track road and they apparently have a big wagon..... Never have I found a company more reluctant to sell you their produce. This is Bako NW in Preston, not the more southern based depots.
Perhaps if I asked for 750kg they might be a little more obliging :D

I deal with the same company. Bako NW in Preston. I think it all comes down to who the rep is.

Ah that will be issue. Their wagon is huge!!!
