I like your idea of screwing the base to the sides with eyelets. That would be a handy anchor point for nylon rope to keep the lid down in windy conditions https://youtu.be/MAoO19hJtYU
I also like the staples inside to stop frames rocking. I don't know why we don't do that here!

Things have moved on since I did this video but I must give credit to my French teacher Charles Basset. It's his design for the eyelet fixings in the base. And also he showed me how to use the large staples to use to stop the frames rocking. I know both
Of these ideas work well, more especially in setting the nucs as traps. You can secure the trap down from any angle if it's in a tree etc. And yes also the staples are great as when you move any colony your always potentially and unwittingly going to cause the frames to rub together, usually despite your best efforts!! I agree that in well established colonies this isn't really applicable as the comb and propolis do a good job but in nuc or recently arrived swarm it's a really sensible option. I had one last year that fell out of a tree because I hadn't tied it in!! Amazingly the frames stayed apart and I was able to salvage the colony. The queen was unhurt!!
Recently I have added screened bases to all my nucs that are not swarm traps. Not sure if they would work as well as traps if they had large screened bottoms, as it causes confusion when a swarm arrives at the trap!! Workers and even the queen can end up underneath the trap and not in it!!
There is also a part two in this video http://youtu.be/X3tDLd23ess
Oh and btw, thanks for posting the link!
