I have had a listing on the honeybeehive website to sell some of my honey for a few years, but haven't had any enquires for a while now and I tried to access the website over the weekend and it doesn't seem to exists anymore. Anybody know what has happened to it?

I only thought about it over the weekend as I took the first crop of honey off the hive and now need to investigate other options for selling it, don't particularly want to set up my own website as with the amount of honey I produce (with the exception of last year) the cost of a website doesn't justify the amount I get from selling the honey.

Not sure about that website.

Ask people at work? We sold about 50 jars in two days last month to my wife's work colleagues. I now have a waiting list for the next harvest.

I sell a bit through work as I'm a service engineer so travel to different office and the wife works at the local hospital so a bit gets sold through there, but I usually only have about 30lbs to sell except last year had 110lbs.

I split the hive last year and did another split a week ago as swarm prevention, only took half a dozen frames off at the weekend to shown the grandchildren the process for extracting honey but the two main hives each have a full super which will probably be capped by next weekend.

Offer to give a talk to your local WI/OAPs/local groups.. and bring along honey to sell.

You'll find you will never have enough.. I sold over 120lbs last year like that and could sell more - but I have two jars left (for me!)

I need 52 jars to keep me going through the year, and I allow for a bad year so I need 104 jars. Any extra I sell. I have not lived in this house for a year yet, I have never sold honey from it and only a few people knew I kept bees, I already have people calling asking if I sell it. A sign outside your house if possible and it will be gone in a day.
P.s. If your town has a web site, advertise on that.

You can create a free wordpress web site
https://wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

No costs if you are happy with domain address with whatever name you use ending with wordpress.com
Or about £12 to buy a domain through them which will be your name.com or org. With the wordpress bit removed. They advertise them as blogs but if you set the first page to static rather than posts they are a web site to all intents and purposes.
Cons, no addons allowed, but for a basic web site they are fine, contact form etc etc.
This is an example of one I set up for a mate of mine.

Do you know how well it performs in search engine requests?

I have a website for my wifes business with 1&1 they charge 1 or 2 quid a month to register the domain name but have just upgraded the website hosting to £6 a month but the package is very good and allow you to have multiple pages and add ons.

Search Engines are a nightmare, you would be better selling on eBay, Amazon, Etsy, Notonthehighstreet.com (that already have an audience) using Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or sign outside your house in my opinion. If you are trying to sell mail order, and then there is the postage/shipping costs and most if not all now will not insure glass.

Most it not all of my honey is purchased by locals, that want local premium honey, some for coughs and colds, hay fever - many now swear it works (and I'm not going to say, yes or no to this claims). (and I try to not look too professional, it helps! If I'm just a little Beekeeper with 20 limited edition jars a year!) I also have jars in my car an office for sale, and every opportunity I get to sell some I do! e.g. this weekend, a mature couple in my Local Sainsbury looking at the "sugar syrup" on the shelves, and I said, you should purchase from a Local Beekeeper...(they said we don't know any) I said, you do now, come out to my car.....SOLD four Jars!

and local markets, and village hall fetes, are very good outlets, even if up against other Beeks....

Just call me Del boy! (and they have a card for top-ups in the future!)

There are a myriad of FB selling sites and many of them are area specific.

Sold.

You will be amazed at how soon word of mouth sells your honey ..,the trick is to keep enough for your own needs and the regular customers... I have a few who buy a jar every month and sometimes more frequently ... these are the ones that you want to hang on to. Collect email addresses if you can to let them know when the new crop is ready ... It's easy to find your market for local honey.

Have you tried contacting the owner to see if he is still running the site?

Fine, just google Piercys Pork and you will see it's the first page listed.

problem is how do you know you have to Google for "Piercys Pork" in the first place! Not really a valid test for SEO.
and if you are so specific with "Piercys Pork" if you are not ranked No.1 something is very wrong!

SEO very complex and not even Google, will tell you now, how they calculate the rankings..

How do you rank if Googled for "Pork" or "Piercys", it's not really much different to a Yellow Pages..... (if this is a website which sells Pork!)

Getting people to a website, needs lots of Marketing... which at present could not be cheaper......
