Just bottled my honey and it's really dark and I mean dark like chocolate.

I know the colour is dependent on the local forage but compared to last year's honey which was really light and yellow.

I'm wondering whether it's was due to the terrible weather in May/June when most of my nectar is gathered?

Does anyone know why there's such contrasting colours? Anyone else had similar experiences?

I'm based in NW London

Many thanks

I'm in Finchley and the honey is pale here. I can't think what your bees might be foraging on to get such dark honey - honeydew? bramble? buckwheat? There's a lot of bramble about, but even so ...

probably honeydew IMHO - mine's certainly darker and more "foresty" this year - perhaps not surprising as the clover crop has suffered in the blistering heat since end of May and the cuts have been timed differently this year too. also not helped by the acacia blossoming being brief and nowhere near normal heady intensity.

Knot weed produces is a very dark honey something similar to horse chestnut

I am in NW7 and mine was dark but not unusually dark for honey.

I always prefer the taste of darker honey, it tastes so much richer to me.
