Hi Ken

I've seen a couple of your posts on here and strongly recommend the following:

When starting beekeeping I would suggest you start with a brand new hive, hygiene is paramount in keeping healthy bees and you never really can be sure with second hand. If you get stuff off a member of a local association you may be ok, but I wouldn't buy off an unknown vendor.
You can get a complete hive for £150-£200 from the main suppliers (Thornes or Maisemore), you may consider polystyrene which is slightly cheaper and has advantages. It really is worth investing this amount of money when starting.

I see you are also looking for an extractor. You are unlikely to get much honey, if any, in your first season so you could hold back on this. Your local association may well have one you can borrow for you first season or so.

If you are buying one make sure it is food grade plastic or stainless steel, there are still some old galvanised ones around that are no longer allowable.

Good luck

Dave

New Yes, extractor Yes. I always get honey from nucs with previous years queens, that's when they are the most prolific
