Can someone explain the comment about wasps and apiary layout please?

Is it just that they hunt upwind?

Hmmm

Hmmmmm I think I may be shooting myself in the foot with my out apiary.

There are three fruit trees nearby, downwind but off to one side and the land owner ignores them so the fruit falls and lies about on the ground.

My bees improve the pollination so, more fruit = more wasps.

If the fruit trees and litter are downwind then wasps will discover and settle at the fruit before coming to your hive so your hives will be getting some protection. The problem will come later in the season when the fruit litter has gone. If the plume from your hives reaches the fruit trees then it'll be the next draw to attract wasps. If wasps are already swarm feeding on the fruit then you are likely to see lots of wssps simultaneously attracted to your hives which will make it harder for your hives to resist the attack (versus batting away solitary scouting wasps). It would be prudent to ensure that you have tunnel entrances installed to give your hives better protection.
