So tonight I collected my first Nuc....Now, (after an hours drive) they are sat happily in their box ready for transferring to the hive in the next few days. Was lovely to meet my nuc supplier, finally and be given some sound advice for the future (and hear some amazing tips!).

I'll apologise now as I am sure I will be asking many questions in the future!

Can't wait to get started properly ....

Congrats and welcome. Get ready for a ride of highs and lows. Just when you are chuffed you did something right the bees will show you whose actually in charge. I couldnt stop watching mine when i started but try not to open them up unless you have a reason to. And as im a relative newbee myself the only advice i will give is try to handle the frames as gently as possibly. Heavy handed vibrations ...they dislike! Oh and take notes on each inspection, you will forget amounts dates frames....

Yep, welcome to the group. Best advice I got was if in doubt leave it to the bees to sort out. Best investment I made was a £2 diary where I record everything: bees, purchases, notes on inspections, honey produced, sales etc.
If you've joined your local association then you're good to go.

Agree. A journal is the way to go. There are lots of cards, forms etc, but it is really useful to have notes on what you saw and what you want to follow up when back home.

Have you joined a local Beekeeping society?
They offer expertise backed up with local knowledge something invaluable to the new beek.

All we offer here is our opinion, which in most cases is not half bad but, (in some cases) can be nutty, extreme & plain wrong!
You'll have to decide for yourself what's what!

Good luck, there will be ups & downs but it's great in the long run.
