Good evening dear reader
Well after a busy week with work there’s been a fair amount of beekeeping going on too.
Mid week I removed colonies off the Buckwheat and Phacelia - a fair few supers had so was worth it in the end - but it was past 1am after a long day at work when I finally fell into bed..

these were moved with the broken finger - I taped up the outside of a large rubber glove (blue Maisemore type with the cotton cuffs) to stabilise the break. It worked quite well..but I omitted to tell the hand specialist the next day at Salisbury hospital what I’d been up to.

3 more xrays later and they confirmed the dislocated and break in the finger and break in a bone further back too. No wonder it ached.

Fast forward to a proper job splint and lots of physio exercises to do to help it recover and prevent it rotating (crossing) as it heals.

So to the Saturday - and a long day was spent with two local beekeepers who assisted me in the removal of honey from 6 sites - needing two trailer runs so no bad considering the poor crops being reported.

unfortunately, one of the helpers really copped in with 30 stings, mostly to his legs...think he needs to invest in a full bee suit the bees didn’t like dark Cotton workers trousers one bit. He was extremely stoic though but sat out the last site collection as was feeling rather wiped out - who can blame him?

Still a further 6 apiaries to clear and then time to feed

and progress on the new extraction room albeit slowly..some racking arrived for the storage container and tomorrow will see a gentle filling of the Trailer with a load to further clear the garage ready to start the comversion.

this’ll involve screeding the floor with levelling compound as it’s just rough concrete at the moment which’ll then be painted with flooring paint.

then the walls will be internally clad with insulation, ditto the roof, and then clad in either plastic panels or thin ply which will be painted.

finally the door will be changed to a double door with window for light to allow easy access and make it bee-proof.

lots to do and no it won’t happen for this harvest sadly

have a good Ivy flow - looking good and fine settled weather of 20/21 degrees for the next week or two should bode well
