Hello

Does anyone have any sound advise on how to cure SINUS.

Busy Bee

menthol crystals in boiling water towel over your head or sniff hivemakers thymol recipe

Would it perhaps be more effective to fit some kind of bung in each nostril, with a hole in the center for inserting a syringe, then force 40 or 50ml of salt water solution up each nostril, until it ran/gurgled out of the persons mouth,at least this would be a guaranteed method of pressure flushing.

That's roughly the effect when things go wrong while SCUBA diving. Last time it happened to me I kept waking up with a salty, soggy pillow for a week.

I have also done it voluntarily as diving is a big no-no with blocked sinuses. Snorting salt water fixes that.

You need considerably more than 50ml. It's surprising how much sinuses can hold.

Be warned - there will be copious amounts of mucus.

Thanks A N B, the 40/50ml was just a guess, so what your saying is maybe pumping a litre or so of salty water up each nostril, would be much more effective.

That would probably be roughly equivalent to doing a 'giant stride' off the top deck of a large live-aboard, and losing your mask on entry to the water. So, :iagree: ;)

As a scuba diving instructor of more years than I really would rather mention..
DO NOT DIVE WITH SINUS PROBLEMS !

However the salty water sniffing really does sort the problem of sinuses out... if they are blocked AND infected get to see your GP asap.

Beware of the proprietary formulas that are sold "for the snorting of"...... give temporary relief for half an hour.

After snorting the said douche... relax with a large single malt and a honey sandwich !

Blocked sinus - the cure - no duff

Take a pyrex jug, one pint of boiling bater, one teaspoon of salt, one or two teaspoons of sugar and one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda. Mix well and allow to cool - always a good step to observe.

Decant it into a suitable bottle for storage. I use an old squash bottle.

You could use one of those wee tea pot things to pour it up your hooter, but failing that, pour some into the cupped palm of your hand - over the sink Stick your nose over your hand and snort for Britain. Put your head back and try to hold it for a short while. Some will have come down the back of your throat. Do the other nostril and then repeat a few minutes more.

Doing this two or three times a day will give you a lot of relief in a fairly short space of time.

This is what the ear, nose and throat people recommend for people that have had any form of nasal surgery as it clears out snot and scabs a treat.

The salt is aggressive and mildly antiseptic, the sugar moderates the salt and is also hygroscopic and so helps keep your sinuses moist and the bicarbonate of soda. Well it loves to dissolve snot. Within a couple of days if you have gone deaf with blocked sinuses or estucheon tube(?) then you will notice your ears clearing wonderfully.

I got the run around with all sorts of ear drops and nose drops when I had a period of deafness in my right ear. I at first thought that I had done in my ear drum (no previous experience). I finally got an appointment with an ENT consultant, who needed me to have a hearing test first. it seems that he arranged a lot of hearing aids for people. Well the technician said that it was pointless doing a hearing test as my ear was blocked - full marks for noticing. The specialist gave my ears a bit of a vacuuming which helped a little bit and gave me the bit of paper with the recipe to wash out my sinuses. Why, oh why don't GP's use common sense and something like that instead of prescribing ineffectual nose and ear drops?

How to avoid sinus problems in the first place? Well, that's a difficult one, but work on your hydration and drink plenty of fluids.
= = =
Did you ever notice how, as a young fella/fella-ess, that the piss artists rarely had any form of acne or constipation because of the amount of fluids that they poured through their bodies.

Good luck and go snort for Britain. If I don't use it all up in about six months I throw it away and make more. Give it a good shake before each use. :)

Flying with sinus problems isn't such a good idea either.

Vicious but effective (shown me by a foreign student many years ago) - turn on an electric cooker ring - you want it hot but not glowing - then pour half a teaspoon of sugar on it - stick your head in the dense white fumes and sniff hard......... (If it catches fire, the ring is too hot). It smells vile, and feels as if you've inhaled poison gas, but it is very effective........

Depends on why you have a problem in the first place - is it an allergy an infection or an infection that came about because of an allergy. You can try using a nasal spray for hay fever sufferers and also start taking ZYRTEC to see if it is an allergy. What is coming out of your nose? What colour is it? Does it have blood in it? Are your eyes red?
