hi,

My name is Michael I'm 27 from Rainham, Kent.
Bee keeping is something I have always wanted to do as this part of nature fascinates me. I feel that now is my time to become a truely dedicated bee keeping and acquire the skills and knowledge to do so.

I have rung my local bee keeping association and they tell me that they hold group meetings weekly. I was hoping to have more of a one to one with a bee keeping. Is there anyone in my local area that could share their experience and knowledge with me? I would be more than happy to pay for their time.

thank you for taking the time to read
Michael

I think you will find if you go to your local assoc , finding a one to one mentor wouldnt be that tricky .

:iagree: normally you can go to 2 or 3 meetings without joining, maybe more, depends on the group. However, you should think hard about not joining a group, many groups have good speakers attend, extractors to hire, group libraries, workshops, socials, insurance etc etc, you'll be missing out on a lot and restricting your knowledge by not joining.

hi Michael - I'm setting-up in Rainham... how are you getting on?

The Association ought to be able to link you up with an approved Beginners Course.

Winter is the off-season for beekeeping. The bees are (mostly) left unbothered, and beekeepers buy and make more and more kit.
It is also the main season for theory-learning, lectures and courses. Practicalities can be practised when the ideas have sunk in and the bees are active - not in winter!
Once you have an idea of the basics, there should be no difficulty in finding someone to mentor you.

Look in the Sticky Posts sections to discover basic advice and comments on appropriate beginner books. I'd suggest getting them from the Library, and reading a few, before buying any.
