They're about half a mile away, so I haven't discussed it with them. Presumably my mentor will explain whether or not there is a need to do so.

Well that sounds perfect, doesn't it? I wish mine were!!
In that case, find a nice little spot for them and enjoy. Any problems you might run into will only affect you.
