It's a big challenge and it's why I still believe that habitat loss - principally due to changing agricultural practices - needs to be tackled if we are serious about helping bees.
To contrast with any of these seed planting initiatives, before set-aside was effectively abolished, the UK had 352,000ha in set-aside (2006-7). If only half that set-aside had been planted with pollinator-friendly wildflower mix, and assuming only a half a hive supported per hectare, that's still 88,000 extra hives of honeybees supported...
