and does it make any difference
you often see wired and unwired offered for sale

Err.. real question?

Wired for extraction

Unwired for cut comb

A search and or a good book will sort this out for you.

PH

Unwired in the supers for cut comb, heather honey for pressing. Also some beekeepers wire the frame with three or four horizontal wires tensioned in the frame, you then lay unwired foundation on top, run a 12 volt electrical current through the wire so the foundation melts to it.
Wired foundation for supers to be extraxted and brood frames - it reinforces the whole outfit.

thanks
can the foundation be cut up and eaten, or does it have a detriment on flavor, as it does not look like the cut comb i have seen nearly white, would it be better to use comb only no foundation

Some people pre-wire brood frames and then fit unwired foundation on a big scale its supposed to me cheaper that way.

Cut comb honey is unwired and you can get extra thin foundation for this but yes you have to be right natural comb is the best-cut comb but you have to keep an eye on the bees if you are using frames.

i use unwired in supers, not had any collapse in the extractor, so far

Don't use any foundation in the supers and they generally go through the extractor fine.

Advantage of using foundation for cut comb is it forces worker size cells which tend to look a bit nicer when sealed than drone sized cells at the expense of more wax.
