What bee scent am I smelling ?
On inspecting at least three different colonies today, I'm sure I could smell lemon grass or citronella.
I've never smelt this before, or my smell has improved, when inspecting a colony.
So What bee scent or bee pheromone am I smelling if possible ?
I googled, and came across lemon grass oil being used as a swarm lure/attractant. (I've not got this in any of my hives!).
So, I assume that this smell must be coming from the bees, I know alarm smells like a banana, but I'm sure that it cannot be in quantities to be smelt by humans ?
I've just not seen it discussed here, so hence my question, and good for others to know....if someone has an answer.
Edited: Found My Answer, after a bit more googling..... lots of hits on Nasonov pheromone, but few state what it smells like!
and the Answer:- Nasonov pheromone!!!
Maybe the answer. is because I'm using less smoke, I could smell it !!! Which surprises me it's that strong to be detected!
