.... but now love!

I just went to Stroud's AMAZING farmer's market and stocked up on all sorts of yummy locally-grown goodies, then came home and harvested veggies from the garden to make a casserole. It was only when I was cutting up the broccoli that I remembered how much I hated this stuff when I was a kid!

Tender purple sprouting broccoli, nutty sprouts, Brinkworth Blue cheese, golden marmalade, rich Fair-trade coffee, chestnut mushrooms... I can't get enough of this stuff now but wouldn't have eaten it at gunpoint before about the age of 16.

Did anyone else here use to hate these foods? Anyone got any theories as to why we change tastes so dramatically?

Mother's immediate post-war cookery was the source of everything I loathed for years - sorry Mum!

Know what you mean :D
My mum used to kid us that by Sunday we had run out of butter and would have to eat margarine ! Truth being the opposite .
For years afterwards I thought I was being short changed when given bread and butter :D

Liver. Hated it then and hate it now.

You haven't had it cooked properly. I was the same as a kid, as my ma used to cook it so it had the taste and consistency of old leather.

I love all vegetables and all meat including offal.

Yuk, yes....we used to get pigs' liver cooked to leather at school. I discovered its origin years later when I did anatomy at vet school.
Now, rose veal liver cooked pink is a wonderful delicacy.
Hated and still hate spam.
Hated avocados but love them now.
I introduced my then new BF to eel pie and mash on a visit to London and he nearly threw up into a roadside bin.

I decided a few years ago to try the foods I didnt like as a child. I now like soft cheese but I still hate marzipan even though I like almonds.

I've always loved marzipan: as a kid it was probably my most-often-stolen food item! ("NO!!! that's for the cake!!").

I can't help noticing that it's often the more healthy veg and wholegrain stuff that I didn't like as a child. I'm sure preparation methods have a lot to do with this. Vegetables seemed to get boiled in slimy indigestible chunks, and meat was sometimes a challenge to chew (or identify, for that matter!)

Only use pigs liver to make ******* - or feed to the dogs (same as new Zealand lamb liver actually)
used to hate caviar as a kid now i'll tolerate it :D
Always liked beer though - had my first pint when i was four

we were only allowed two foods we would eat as kids, after that it was a case of just forcing it down and never mind the gap reflex.

my two were strong and blue cheese and liver.

yes i have tried liver since at a very expencive resaurant and i still cant stomach it . yeuk

and as for strong cheeses and blue cheese, its all i eat now. i cant stand dairalee stuff that we as kids and my kids love, but a ripe piece of brie is devine
