I had two vegans come over to my market stall today, one totally against beekeepers as we are exploiting the animal, the other purchased a jar as she understood we are managing the animal in a responsible manner to obtain a food. I was surprised by the difference of opinion when both should hold the same beliefs.

As with most beliefs/lifestyle choices there's a spectrum of zeolousness, and others who cherry pick seemingly random parts which suit themselves.

Vegans are some of the most self righteous, misinformed people around.

You have the vegan society saying that honey is not vegan. This contains a lot of misinformation, such as culling the colonies for winter, this is not a practice we do in the UK, some of their arguments are questionable, especially in this country. Another website say bees are our slaves. Even PETA saying about cruelty. If it wasn't for beekeepers, vegans would not have the variety of food they enjoy. If a swarm gets trapped in the wall of a building a vegan owns, will they go out of their way to get the bees rescued, by knocking down the wall? Do they enjoy eating rotting fruit and vegetables? (Well some of them have said to me do you enjoy eating rotting meat). There are vegan beekeepers as well. It's a mad mad mad mad world. There are always counter arguments, but it doesn't go down well with their ideology. Not The Nine O'clock News did a sketch I eat vegetarians, I think it was with Pamela Stephenson, naked on a vegetable platter with an Apple in her mouth.

I doubt if my honey is vegan......course filtered..... to odd bee leg or antennae !!

I know a vegan beekeeper. He doesn't practice swarm control, he just buys more hives. I don't know if he robs the honey, I was laughing too much when he told me about buying the hives that the conversation kind of went downhill.

I don't see how any vegan can keep bees to rob. Beekeeping inevitably involves killing bees, even accidentally. When it comes to removing queens or even queen cells, we're killing a living being for our own purposes, which is hardly a vegan act.

Only the self righteous and misinformed ones.

Agreed, problem is those are the ones that people are aware of.
"Normal" vegans are just people who just mind their own business and order vegan food when you're out, and they will mention they're vegan when the subject does come up in conversation, not 30 seconds after knowing you and every 45 seconds after that.
I have 1 past colleague and 2 current colleagues that are "normal" vegans, and I found out just because, as I said, it came up in a conversation about food. The reaction was a general "oh, fancy that" and moved on with the conversation.

Unfortunately, (like Politicians & Terrorists) the "normal" ones aren't the activists out taking pictures, pushing their agenda on websites!

Agreed. It's sometimes difficult to remember there is a number of people that end up represented by this minority due to the noise they make, but are actually not in favour of this kind of activism.

Maybe I should apply to offset the tax on the 3L V6 diesel against the fact my three hives are saving the planet and making me carbon neutral.......?

I have no issue with people having unsupported or irrational beliefs if they apply it to themselves. I just object when they are thrown in my face in a "you should do this too or you will kill us all" way.

You get fundamentalism in every walk of life these days it seems.

It worked. But I kind of wish it hadn't...

(But admit I've just forwarded it to other unsuspecting recipient!)
Am puzzled though by the context, as I assumed it was a comment on those who will try anything with daft accusations to discredit Corbyn!
